Abstract
In the present article it is argued that when teaching would-be translators to translate into the foreign language, they should not be discouraged by making unreasonable demands - a perfect command of the language in question in all its variety, combined with knowledge of innumerable text types and subjects; rather they should be taught to use the language and information resources available and to act cooperatively towards the goal of producing a quality product - a text that functions as its sender intended it to function for a given audience in a given situation. The author describes four modules which she believes are essential elements of transatlor training.
