Abstract

In this paper a simple model for teaching translated is proposed (specifically: from the mother tongue into the target language) in an EFL instructional context where translation is used as a text for assessing ability in the target language; it also serves, however, as a model for teaching translation into as well as from the mother tongue. The authors reflections are based on teaching translation from German into English but are also valid for any language pair. The model proposed aims to conform with generally accepted principles of EFL teaching and learning and provide alternatives to merely translating sentence after sentence around the class.
