Abstract

The article deals with the Latin translation of a German work. Sebastian Brant's Ship of Fools was translated into Latin by Jakob Locher, Brant's pupil. This adaptation Stultifera Navis was published in 1494. Both texts reflect their author's personality: Brant is rather conservative whereas Locher was influenced by humanist ideas. The differences in approach of madness is already apparent in the lexical choices that had determined the titles of both works.
