This dissertation aims to examine the relationship between the translation and typographical practice and its full scope. It furthermore deals with the role and importance of visual text layout in the professional translation process and points out the consequences this has for translator training at university level. At the same time the author feels a critical analysis of the current translation practice should contribute to the development of a full time translation profession.
