Abstract
Due to the diversity of ethnic groups and tribes in Africa, interpreting became a necessary tool for communication and as a result of contacts with the Arab world, the period of empires and the advent of colonization the status of the African interpreter became recognized and officialized. The article focuses on the situation of interpreters in West Africa.
