Abstract
Malaysian society is a blend of people of different ethnic and linguistic origins. The Malaysian government employs interpreters in the various government departments to interpret in all aspects of government administration and to translate important government notices and documents. The duties of a Malaysian court interpreter are varied and numerous depending on the court to which he is attached and interpreters sometimes serve in a dual capacity, as a clerk of court and as an interpreter. Interpretation in the Malaysian courts may be done by official interpreters of the court or ad hoc interpreter.
