The author first discusses the 'ghost' role of the interpreter, which implies the interpreter impersonates the speaker the way a ghost writer impersonates the client he is writing for, on the communicative and textual level. He further discusses the interpreter as "intruder". In this role the interpreter makes his own judgements about the nature of the meeting, the speaker, the audience and their attitude, the nature of the source texts and makes adjustments in this interpretation. These different roles of the interpreter tie in with quality, because our attitude towards them will determine the criteria of evaluation.
