Latta, Robert L. 1999. The basic humor process: a cognitive-shift theory and the case against incongruity (Humor Research 5). Berlin: De Gruyter Mouton. xii + 257 pp.

Abstract

Latta’s book constitutes a philosopher's book about humour, or, as he calls it, ‘the humor process'. It purports to provide a full account of the entire phenomenon of humour. It is an attempt to undermine what he terms 'the stimulus-side bias' in the study of humour and to give greater emphasis to the response side.
