Lederer, Marianne. 1994. La traduction aujourd'hui: le modèle interprétatif [Translation today: the interpretative model]. Paris: Hachette. 224 pp.

Abstract

What is translation? For laymen it is finding a correspondence in another language. For the practitioner, as for the researcher in Translation Studies, it is understanding the meaning of an original text and rendering it. This oeuvre describes the triple process of translation: comprehension, deverbalisation, and re-expression of meaning. In the translation process, languages are indeed the vehicle of meaning. This book highlights several practical problems: the difference between translation in a pedagogical institution and professional translation, translation into the foreign language, and automatic translation as opposed to human translation.
