El Periódico de Catalunya has been simultaneously published in Spanish and Catalan since 1997, largely thanks to the help of a machine translator. The article briefly summarises the experience and the pros and cons of working with a machine translator. An explanation is given as to how the limitations of the initial translator, created internally, were improved upon with a second version, which was incorporated into the production of the newspaper in May 2005. While the new version still has certain drawbacks, it is a more powerful, intelligent tool and, overall, is viewed in a very positive light.
