This article first sketches the translation history of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. The concepts of ideology and discourse are then discussed as theoretical background for presentation of the many and diverse ways in which ideology impinges on translation activity. A brief account of the wider historical and political context of the book's genesis lead to a description of political attitudes to the text in some official and unofficial translations. Finally, a linguistic analysis attempts to show how ideology is reflected on the textual level in the original and two of its official English translations.
