The author first discusses the following two broad procedures of translation quality assessment: psycho-social approaches (mentalist views, response-based approaches, behaviouristic views of translation evaluation, functionalistic 'skopos'-related views of translation evaluation) and text- and discourse based approaches (Descriptive Translation Studies, post-modernist and deconstructionist approaches, linguistically-oriented approaches) to translation quality assessment. She further discusses a functional-pragmatic model of translation evaluation, linguistic description versus social evaluation in translation criticism, and the influence of global English on textual norms of other languages and as consequences for a typology of translation.
