Abstract

Starting from the sociological theory of Pierre Bourdieu, and especially his concepts of field and habitus. This book analyses the French translation of the American realist novel from 1920 to1960. A detailed contrastive analysis is carried out on a selection of works by Ernest Hemingway, John Dos Passos, John Steinbeck, Henry Miller and Henry James.
