Abstract
The concept of creativity is relatively new in the field of Translation Studies. For some researchers, the act of translating itself implies creativity while for others, creativity is only potentially present. The various criteria that may be used to judge target texts are examined (newness, adequateness), as is Berman’s definition of the translation contract, which helps to set the limits of creativity in translation.
