Abstract

This book investigates the marginal position of translation in literature and literary criticism. The book is divided into three parts. The first part investigates the relationship between for ‘to translate’ and ‘to interpret’, followed by an exploration of the East/West relationship. The second part aims to shed some light on the relationship between language and culture. In a final instance, the third part looks into the philosophical nature of translation, also focusing on how hermeneutics leads to translation.
