Abstract

Beginning with the general categories of multimedia, hypertext, and virtuality, the article re-examines the communicative and epistemological principles behind multimediality. This inevitably subverts some of the basic tenets of translation theory, the 'source language', for example, becoming the language of the translator, while 'source text' is relegated to the realms of the virtual.
