Abstract

Communication between doctors and patients is sometimes a difficult task, as doctors are sometimes not aware of their highly technical language use and the lack of knowledge of medical terminology their patients have. This is made yet more arduous when the doctor concerned is a foreign speaker. Doctors going abroad may learn the technical terminology however they may not be able to communicate with their patients due to their not understanding different accents, registers, expressions, etc. When training medical professionals for their work abroad it is important to determine whether to prepare them for everyday conversations or to base teaching on technical terminology and translation. This paper will try to analyse the different solutions and possibilities.
