Abstract
The paper presents the reality of community interpreters in Poland and the findings of an empirical study conducted in 2003 on interpreting during the political asylum hearings at the Office of Repatriation and Foreigners in Warsaw. It discusses the specificity of this particular setting and the different roles played by the interpreter during his/her performance.
