Abstract

Recent publications of Italian novels, specifically since 1989, reveal that along with adequate translations there also exist many which provide examples of various errors at different linguistic levels. This is due to two reasons. Firstly, the deceptive simplicity of the Italian language, which means that many people with a basic knowledge of the language undertake translations for which they are not capable enough. Secondly, the linguistic interference between Italian and Spanish, due to their formal semantic similarity as well as to common influence, may mean that even good translators make specific errors. These may be syntactic, morphological, phonetic or lexical, the latter being the ones which provide the greatest variety of examples. [Source: BITRA]
