The article provides a general overview of the emergence and development of the polysystem theory in terms of its relevance for Translation Studies. It explores the way recent scholars have criticized and/or complemented the theory through the use of additional concepts. The article also provides information on the major polysystem-inspired studies carried out in Turkey and the way these have revised some tenets of the theory.
