The book compares the use of diminutives in Spanish and in English and analyses the multiple values of the innumerable diminutives that are used in Spanish. It offers a detailed analysis of how the Spanish forms and meanings are expressed with diminutives when translated into English, their frequency of use, the grammatical categories they are applied to, the strategies used to convey the meaning of the Spanish diminutive in English, etc. The study is based on a corpus of nineteen novels and theatre works and their translations into English and into Spanish.
