This book aims to give an account of translation competence and skills. The book is divided into eleven thematic sections. The first chapter aims to define the concept of competence. The next chapter investigates six paradigms of intelligent conduct. The third chapter looks into context, culture and compensation. The fourth section looks into translation conduct and problem-solving. The concept of interference is investigated in the fifth chapter. Routine behaviour is the topic of the sixth chapter. Machine information processing and a discussion of four types of knowledge are the subjects of next two chapters. The last few sections look into the role of memory, schema theory and some implications of skills for translation didactics constitute the final chapters.
