Abstract

In expert meetings held at the European Commission to prepare written documents, language mediators face numerous terminological difficulties. According to this paper, the creation of the profession of “conference terminologist” would allow these professionals to exert a 'terminological control' over the written or spoken texts occurring at these meetings. Furthermore, they would help to identify terminological problems in advance, so as to reduce the number and the duration of sessions and, therefore, their costs. Similarly, the quality of the documents produced could be improved.
