The year after his speech at Oviedo, the author received the Translation Award from the National Award of Letters in India and delivered and acceptance speech in 1998. There is a certain continuity between the two events. In the former the author questions the metropolitan hybridist. In the latter he takes the national identitarians to task. The author's acceptance speech is added as a conclusion to this essay, which is thus in two sections, Oviedo and New Delhi.
