Abstract
There is no provision of audio description (AD) at the institutional level on the Chinese mainland. This is to be expected since most resources in this sector are used on medicines to eliminate curable blindness. By contrast, the lack of provision in the wealthy city of Hong Kong can be attributed only to a lack of awareness of the right to media access for all. There is an attempt to provide training in audio description for university interpreting students, and this has proved to be educationally beneficial. In Taiwan, much advocacy and research have been done and provision is improving dramatically.
