This discussion on the personality of interpreters and the way they exercise their profession as portrayed in the novel Wesire und Konsuln by Ivo Andric is part of a more comprehensive academic work entitled Dolmetscher als literarische Figuren. The metaphorical function of the interpreter and the consequences of fictional portrayals for the profession are also explored.
