Abstract
After stressing the importance of a translation theory for the practice of translation, with some examples form The Island of the Day Before and Baudolino by Umberto Eco, the article focuses on the problem posed by the translation of Italian songs form the 1930s and 1940s in Eco's' novel The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, where it is essential to translate their evocative capacity as well as their sentimental function.
