Abstract
The article discusses film translation, specifically subtitling and dubbing, in Spain. The state of three approaches to the study of film translation is explored: the impact of the industrial nature of filmmaking on film translation, the technical process involved in the various modes of film translation, and an examination of translation problems in the context of conditions that are specific to audiovisual media. The article concludes with a discussion of some emerging lines of research in film translation, such as investigations into the linguistic characteristics of different film genres, studies of voice-over audio descriptions, and theoretical research into film translation.
