Abstract

This book aims to shed some light on thirteen English translations of the Kinder- und Hausmärchen written by the brothers Grimm in the nineteenth century. The book sets out to investigate the way in which the respective translators performed their work and what choices they made, their faithfulness to the source text and whether deviations from the source text were warranted. What is also fundamental in the study is how the respective translators coped with cruel, violent, blasphemous or sexually explicit scenes in the source text.
