Abstract

This book aims to investigate the import and the influence of English literature in France after 1741. The main body of the book comprises a comparative study of twelve English novels and their respective translations into French, made between 1741 and 1763. Some of the authors discussed are S. Richardson, H. Fielding, S. Fielding, T. Smollet and F. Coventry, translated by, among others, Prévost and Desfontaines.
