In the age of communication, technical-scientific information has to be made available in more than one language. What makes this information different from general language information is, precisely, the use of specialised vocabularies, i.e. the terminology. The paper deals in the first place with the way terminology has been handled up to the present time, and what can be expected for the future. It then deals with some quality requirements necessary to produce high-quality terminology by means of establishing quality control during each stage of the terminographic process and the final presentation of the product. It also raises the question of quality assurance of terminology available on international computer networks, and why it is necessary to agree on some quality requirements to provide terminology to users scattered all over the world. It ends with several suggestions to achieve the production of high-quality terminology.
