Abstract

Engelbert Humperdinck's opera for children Hänsel und Gretel with the words written by the brothers Grimm saw to and is still seeing to unabated interest which is the reason why the translation of the text into Polish seems to be an important issue. In the piano extract belonging to the eminent Polish opera singer Margot Kaftal with the original dedication of Humperdinck from the year 1904, one can very often trace many changes in the translation of the same fragments of the text. These changes were introduced by hand by many different artists in order to adjust particular words or phrases to their vocal interpretative possibilities.
