This work has a chiefly didactic purpose. The author provides a brief investigation into the notion of ‘false friend’ and proposes a definition. The author then explains how intralinguistic and interlinguistic interference can lie at the origin of partial or complete false friends, and how this can cause errors. It provides some 1,000 false friends in alphabetical order, in French and English.
