Everybody knows the names Necker or de Saussure. But what about Albertine Necker de Saussure? This article is about Albertine Necker de Saussure, who contributed to the dissemination of Romanticism in France by translating a work of August Wilhelm von Schlegel. This woman was a modest translator. Nevertheless, she attracted the attention of several historians. Necker de Saussure was a translator at the hinge point of classicism and romanticism, a period in which translation experienced a profound transformation. Albertine’s life can be divided into three major periods: her youth, years of education, the period in which translating was her core business and the last period, in which she didn’t translate anymore and started to write her own works.
