The point of departure of this paper is that the translation of humour resides in taking into account the underlying structure of the source text, the mechanisms in the work that make the reader laugh. She states that reconsidering the ideological presuppositions and the desconstruction of the racist discourse on which the irony of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is based, have been completely undermined in certain French texts.
