Abstract

This paper refers to recent developments in Language Studies and Linguistics and their relevance to Translation Studies. Special emphasis is put on Cognitive Linguistics and language corpus studies. Within corpus studies, the concept of semantic prosody and the question of frequencies of occurrence of lexical items and phrases are discussed. The contribution of Cognitive Linguistics to translation theory is presented in connection with the concepts of prototype, imagery and construal and their function in the cognitive theory of equivalence.
