Abstract

In order to avoid semantic interference errors (involving a transposition of the source language meaning structures on the target language) the author proposes to base the model of formation and development of second language semantic competence at the advanced and intermediate levels on the classical linguistic methods of meaning analysis. These methods (logical, semic and componential analyses) operate on one language and make it possible to uncover various components of a lexeme‘s meaning from its inherent to afferent features. Its knowledge determines the correct choice of a word in relation to its referent and to its linguistic and pragmatic context and it is a prerequisite for a correct interpretation of the discursive meanings. Therefore, in the last chapter, the author points out that the lack of knowledge of the second language semantic norm can lead to the aberration in translation.
