Languages reflect the features of the Culture they stem from and they talk about. Any translation has to convey those cultural components; therefore they first need to be identified. They may be particularly observed in the semantic structure of the high-frequency polysemic words. Such words are structured in the semantic structure of the high-frequency polysemic words. Such words are structured in schemes of representation which show those cultural components and make up the background of their polysemy. Four types of schemes can be identified: the ontological, structural, symbolical and functional ones. This paper is based on the example of the semantic structure of the word “temps” in French, with some comparisons with its equivalents in English and German: “time” and “Zeit”.
