Abstract

Crosscultural contacts often involve borrowing words from other languages. Numerous elements of one culture have no equivalents in another one. Therefore, discussing them in a different language requires the use of foreign terminology. In the theory of translation borrowings are thus treated as a lack of translation. Nevertheless, they are considered to be one of the translatological procedures used in the case of untranslatable structures. However this phenomenon should not be limited to the lexis. At a higher level, there is the borrowing of some text models which do not exist in the target language. Important system changes in eastern European countries in the last ten years have led to the appearance of new law regulations, new institutions, new lifestyles etc. These new phenomena of social life are often accompanied by some text forms, often characterized by a very fixed, conventionalized structure and vocabulary. In many cased they are borrowed from other cultures and language areas. [Based on abstract in book]
