The aim of this paper is to present the evidence for the claim that the process of metaphor translation consists of the following three stages namely: recognition, interpretation and re-expression. The underlying idea behind the present study is that the interpretation of metaphorical expression is the most difficult stage in the translation of metaphor. The pilot project presented here has as its aim the examination of the above-mentioned stages in the translation of metaphor in non-literary writing. Furthermore, the research involves the analysis of the strategies applicable in metaphor translation and the examination of the types of metaphorical expressions which occur in non-literary writing. The experiment, described in this paper, shows that the interpretation of metaphor does pose problems for the translator. Concluding, it may be stated that the finding is consistent with the thesis statement.
