Abstract

Any translation act is to a certain degree an attempt at domesticating the original text. The cyberpunk genre abounding in technologically advanced, futuristic settings offers numerous challenges in this respect. The authors of the Polish translations of William Gibson’s Idoru and Neuromancer opted for the preservation of the foreignness of the original texts. The present study suggests their approach led to the production of faulty, at times unintelligible translations.
