Abstract
The article deals with translations of essayistic text as exemplified in selected essays by Robert Musil. The context of the Polish literature and culture seems to present specific difficulties for essay writing. The source of the problems may lie with its genealogical form, its spread between scientism and esthetics, its conceptual development as well as differences in literary traditions.
