Abstract

The fact that a literary text to be translated is connected by a fine web with a number of other texts already written is of considerable importance for the translator. The paper looks at examples of various translation strategies used when the rendering of a literary allusion is difficult because of differences between SL and TL texts in the elements vital for the allusion. The instances discussed include excerpts from literary works as well as film titles. Intertextuality within TL texts is also mentioned.
