It has been quite some time since an example-based machine translation system was first proposed. In the intervening years, such topics as formulas for quantifying the similarity of example sentences and their associated problems have been widely discussed by many researchers. However, the issue of example data has never been discussed. This paper looks into this subject and proposes the use of field-by-field example databases through their incorporation into a machine translation system as libraries.
