Abstract

The authors of the paper all teach translation-related subjects to Łódź University students whose primary goal is to master a foreign language. Łódź does not have a non-fee-paying university-level school of translation, and teaching translation is a relatively new phenomenon here. The University’s three major foreign language departments (English, Romance and German) all have elective or optional translation courses, but for the time being, despite the popularity that they enjoy, they are geared towards language development rather than job training. This trilingual paper compares and contrasts the translation tracks that the three departments have, and suggests future developments, perhaps a change of track from language- to job-oriented training.
