Abstract

This paper reflects the content of the workshop held during the Turku International Interpreting Conference in 1994. Prior to the workshop six leading and orienteering questions were sent to panellists for preparation: 1. How are we (the interpretation research community) doing in research methodology? 2. What are the advantages and limitations of theory vs. empirical research? What are the relative advantages and disadvantages of observational vs. experimental research? 4. What are the technical problems involved in interpretation research? 5. How important is it to undertake interdisciplinary research? 6. What other questions should be stressed during the workshop? The different contributions by the panellists are presented separately. The chapter concludes with a reference to the discussion of the workshop and some concluding remarks.
