Abstract

This article focuses on two important aspects of translation: the notion of ‘translation’ itself and the significance of changes in context often involved in translation work. Both topics are looked at from the perspective of relevance theory of communications as developed by Sperber and Wilson, which the author believes provides concepts that can help to better understand the nature of translation and some of the problems it typically involves.
