To avoid being locked in proprietary solutions, the customers of language services have pushed for the creation of different standards that would allow them to work with different computer-aided translation (CAT) environments and to ensure that their translation-related assets outlive the tools that produced them. In this article some of the main standards used in the industry are discussed.
