Abstract

This article was originally published in 1922 and deals with the following questions: is the translation of poetry possible? Ought there to be any rules which must be observed in the translation of foreign poetry? And what advantage is to be had by translating foreign poetry, or in other words, why translate foreign poetry? In the author’s opinion, foreign poetry can be translated, although there will always be elements which absolutely cannot. What can be translated then is only a makeshift, but better than nothing.
