Abstract
The workshop, of which this paper gives a synopsis, takes the inseparable link between linguistics and interpreting studies as a starting point. Obviously, not all linguistic theory is relevant to interpreting. First of all, a dynamic perspective is needed in linguistics for interpretation studies rather than a synoptic perspective, with an orientation toward the process rather than the product. Furthermore, linguistics for interpreters should be based on meaning and on language in context. Finally, an interlingual aspect is indispensable to linguistics for interpreters.
